A Study on the Correlations among Statures, Skinfold Thicknesses and Heart Measurements by Teleroentgenography in Korean Students

Abstract
The author has measured statures, chest girths, body weight, skinfold thicknesses and hearts on teleroentgenography in the 276 male and 217 female Korean freshmen to determine their parameters and calculated the correlation coefficients among the items.
The following conclusions were drawn from the study.
(1) The averages of the stature, the chest girth and the body weight are 168.0cm., 91.9cm and 57.5kg. in male and 155.5cm., 76.7cm. and 50.8kg. in female respectively
(2) The averages of the triceps, subscapular and suprailiac skinfold thicknesses are 9.8mm., 10.4mm. and 9.3mm. in male and 16.4mm.,18.3mm.and 12.9mm. in female respectively.
(3) The averages of the transvese, broad, long and aortic diameters of hearts are 11.6cm., 10.4cm., 13.0cm. and 5.8cm. in male and 10.8cm., 9.5cm., 11.8cm. and 4.3cm. in female respectively.
(4) The correlation coefficients of 0.37 in male and 0.29 in female between the stature and. the chest girth are indicative of low correlated condition.
(5) The correlation coefficients of 0.48 in male and 0.42 in female between the stature and. the body weight indicative of moderately correlated condition.
(6) The correlation coefficients of below 0.07 between the stature and the skinfold thicknesses are indicative of almost no correlated condition in both sexes.
(7) The correlation coefficients of 0.22 to 0.32 between the stature and the broad and aortic diameters of the heart are indicative of low correlated condition in both sexes.
(8) The correlation coefficients of below 0.05 between the stature and the transverse and long diameters are indicative of almost no correlated condition.
(9) The correlation coefficients of 0.31 in male and 0.24 in female between the triceps skinfold thickness and the transvers diameter of the heart are indicative of low correlated condition.
(10) The correlation coefficients of 0.01 to 0. 11 between the triceps skinfold thickness and the broad and long diameters of the heart are almost no indicative of correlated condition in both sexes.
(11) The correlation coefficients of 0.12 in male and 0.14 in female between the triceps skinfold thickness and the aortic diameter are indicative of very low correlated condition.
(12) The correlation coefficient of 0.47 between the subscapular skinfold thickness and the transverse diameter of the heart is indicative of. moderately correlated condition in male and that of 0.23 is indicative of low correlated condition in female.
(13) The correlation coefficients of below 0.09 between the subscapular skinfold thickness and the broad and aortic diameters of the heart are indicative of almost no correlated condition in both sexes.
(14) The correlation coefficients of 0.20 in male and 0.25 in female between the subscapular skinfold thickness and the long diameter of the heart are indicative of low correlated
condition
(15) The correlation coefficients of 0.14 to 0.31 between the suprailiac skinfold thickness and the transverse and aortic diameters of the heart are indicative of low correlated condition in both sexes.
(16) The correlation coefficients of below 0. 10 between the suprailiac skinf old thickness and the broad and long diameters of the heart are indicative of almost no correlated condition.
